    I won't replace your #1 choice, as I whole-heartedly agree.

I would like to replace #2 - I did not like that movie - I'm going to offer up "Clyde" from Clint Eastwood's "Every Which Way But Loose" franchise. (I was going to say Yoda, but I didn't think he'd count).

On second thought - let's go bigger....King Kong. Now, I'm not smart enough to say what he represents - I'm sure something along racial lines, or America's views on the world in general, but maybe one of you will chime in.

or how about Lassie... the ultimate canine representation of unquestioned love and devotion... always finding its way home... the parable of the prodigal son in reverse... or maybe not, because I don't like dogs!

not a suggestion, but a reference that immediately came to mind...

    it's called,
"BAMBIFICATION: the mental conversion of flesh-and-blood living creatures into cartoon characters possessing bourgeois Judeo-Christian attitudes and morals."

    - as defined by Douglas Coupland in Generation X (Abacus; 1991)
