Ha! Ha! Thanks Phil, this hadn't escaped my attention either. I only used Tom B because a few weeks ago someone else was posting as Tom and I didn't wish to cause confusion. However, we've not heard from him in a while so I may go ahead and claim the singular title for myself - I think that's only fair!

Did anyone else notice Tom's name, when put all together, is "TomB" (as in, the very thing that contains Mummies, Dragon Emperors, Podcast Curses, etc. etc)?

Good question, Tom.

Would "Gone With The Wind" be considered the first blockbuster? For a while at least it held the record for highest number of tickets sold (when released and in the modern era - not sure if anyone has passed them) - and was top domestic box office when adjusted for inflation.

Modern era? I don't know -- was 'Jaws' the first "summer blockbuster"? Star Wars? I would call neither dumb, but I know what you mean...

Also: speaking of the death of cinema...more people went to the movies in the 40's than they do today. Prices? Quality of movies? Internet / VODs? Some combination?

Ok, I have more to say on the subject of big CGI blockbusters, but have to get the initial response to the show out there while it's still fresh in my mind.

A question: What came first, big dumb blockbusters or audiences who are willing to part with good money to see big dumb blockbusters?

I never was interested in the X-Files TV show. I saw the first movie, and it was OK -- just kind of a 2 hr TV show I thought.

Jett, I think that instead of non-violent means of preventing people from seeing movies like the Mummy, take a cue from Batman - don a Bat-suit, lurk outside of theaters, and pummel people you suspect are going to pay money to see movies such as The Mummy.

Definitely a curse. I think the show's blessed me though - I turned down my friend trying to get me to go to both of these films and clearly I was right to do so.
