I would just like to correct you there on one point (and break my usual reserved façade) to say that contrary to what you said in this episode, it is quite possible to get laid by a beautiful woman after seeing this film together on a first date.

(ahem)

Why? I think it's because this film left my (or rather, our) heads racing with things to talk about afterwards. From the structure of the film to the remarkable single-take shot that were perfectly integrated into the film and not distracting as set pieces, to the subtle connection between distopian sci-fi fantasy and very real present day issues. The conversation started the moment the lights came up and continued from the bar to the restaurant to the next bar. Superb film making and a really unexpected treat.

Great film, and the sex afterwards was awesome.

*j*

Re: FilmTalk 2 - Podcast Review of Children of Men

Great Film!!!
MORE SPOILERS!!!

Re: FilmTalk 2 - Podcast Review of Children of Men

Saw it last Thursday night.

An great tale. Two great tales, interwoven. Fairy tale with a child in it - but not childlike. Not quite what I expected.

I'd post a link to some thoughts ... but the filmtalk section isn't configured to accept URLs!

So click on my name instead.

Re: FilmTalk 2 - Podcast Review of Children of Men

Just saw Pan's Labyrinth...ehh.

Think we'll do some animated pics next; Flushed Away, Happy Feet?

Re: FilmTalk 2 - Podcast Review of Children of Men

Children of Men - a good choice. Interesting movie on lots of levels.

The scene when they left the building and walked through the silent, genuflecting military was staggering - even without being at the end of such a long single shot.

So what's the topic for FT#5?

Pan's Labyrinth? An adult, gothic fairy tale with a body count to nearly match Children of Men or Casino Royale!

Is it compulsory in modern cinema to kill off as many of the cast as possible before the end of the movie?

Re: FilmTalk 2 - Podcast Review of Children of Men

You've intrigued me - and it's going to be so hard to find a showing of Children of Men - doesn't seem to have a very wide distribution.
